Inhalt

This course examines central themes in areas of political-economic and economic policy concern from a comparative perspective. It aims to combine substantive discussions with methodological skills: participants will prepare for interactive lectures through guided reading and develop research skills through problem sets in class. The course starts with a theoretical discussion of different Comparative Political Economy perspectives; it then uses these to examine different economic performance profiles; and then relies on those insights to examine debates on innovation; the EU, EMU and Brexit; industrial policy; and the green transition. Students are expected to prepare for the block seminars, participate actively in class; and write, present and provide peer feedback on a 1000-word research proposal on one of the topics discussed in the course. The language of instruction is English; papers can be submitted in English and German.
