The course focuses on citizens’ perceptions of political, social, and economic realities. How do they perceive changes in unemployment, inflation, crime, or migration, and what effects do these perceptions have on their political attitudes? A particular emphasis is placed on retrospective perceptions—the belief that things were supposedly better in the past and that everything is getting worse today.

In addition to an overview of the research literature, the seminar also gives you the opportunity to carry out your own small empirical projects using suitable data.
