Elections are the central element of democracies. In this seminar, using the United States as a case study, we will discuss various theories and empirical analyses of citizens' voting behavior. The seminar focuses on two key questions: What factors shape voting behavior in the United States? And how has voting behavior changed in recent years?In light of the midterm elections in November, we will also draw on the research literature covered in the seminar to discuss current challenges facing American democracy under Donald Trump.
